Taekwondo Study App

A study app for an ITF Taekwondo academy that turns a long exam PDF into something students can search, practice, and use between exercises. I designed and built the MVP independently, then tested it with active students.

Overview

Studying for a Taekwondo graduation exam usually means going through a long PDF, looking for the information you need and trying to remember it later.

I wanted to make that process less boring.

I built a study app for the students at my ITF Taekwondo academy, turning the existing study material into something easier to navigate, search and practice.

The Problem

The academy already had a study guide covering everything students needed for their graduation exams: history, terminology, techniques, forms and other theoretical content.

Students often left studying until close to their exams. During training, it could also take several minutes to find a specific piece of technical information in the PDF.

I wanted to make two things easier:

Studying
Focus on the areas that actually need attention instead of going through the entire material.

Consulting
Find a specific piece of information quickly when a question comes up during training.

The decision

I stopped treating the guide as one long document. After the student picks a belt, the home screen asks what they want to do today. Practice is the primary action. The rest of the material stays one tap away, for a longer study session or a question between exercises.

Results

The MVP is in use at the academy, covering beginner-level content while the original study guide still holds the rest.

Students use it both to focus on weak areas before exams and to look up a specific point during training, instead of scrolling a PDF for several minutes.

The next iterations will focus on better quiz design, stronger connections between categories and visual references for techniques, while continuing to expand the content across higher graduations.
